What was your most significant learning from the training?
- Listening to people might be the only thing they want. I don’t have to bring solutions because they have the solutions within them. By listening well and using the skills, I will be treating people as people of worth who are capable of making their own choices.
- I learned that we don’t have to have the right answers – rather just good questions. Our job is to help someone in crisis talk about their underlying feelings and not to rush them. It is God’s job, not my job, to heal.
- I should talk less and let the client talk more.
- Everything we learned in the training I can use in my day to day walk with people. My relationships will definitely benefit if I apply speaking the truth in love.
- People in crisis are so very vulnerable and it is so important not to cause more damage. If I don’t listen with the help and wisdom of God and leaning on the Holy Spirit, I should not be a peer counselor.
- This is not a training workshop but a healing process. I was so quick to give solutions – now I know my job is to listen and not to make a decision for the other person. What have I done to deserve such an opportunity?

I highly recommend the Equipped to Serve Training Manual. The Seven Fundamentals provide a useful structure for training our counselors that is practical, understandable, and challenging. Many of our trainees have mentioned that the training is on par with a college-level course.

The Pregnancy Center has been using the Equipped To Serve training manuals for 22 years and we’d have it no other way! This training material introduces all of our volunteer client advocates for their work at the center. What we love most about this material, is how the sessions encompasses every aspect in serving the women that enter our doors. This manual literally “equips” the lay person to “serve” in pro life ministry giving them a clear and comprehensive tool to use during and after the sessions. It is well written and thoughtful in understanding the women we seek to serve.”

I have been using Equipped to Serve for about 20 years to train counselors for our pregnancy center. This manual is the most complete one I have ever found for fully training counselors. It is a wonderful source for the spiritual growth of the trainee and helps her to see each client as a divine appointment. Studying this manual prepares the trainee to be the woman she is meant to be, which is important in this ministry. I highly recommend this manual for training
