Everybody loves the movies and they are a great source for reinforcing concepts in the classroom training as well as on-going volunteer training.
Here are some ideas for using Movies in your volunteer program:
- Use clips from movies to emphasize a particular skill or concept in your classroom training. I will be sharing more about how I use movie clips in upcoming blog posts. Better yet, have me come and train your volunteers onsite in a classroom setting
- Movies are a great way to keep volunteers engaged with the concepts taught in your training program. Ask volunteers to watch a movie and have reflection questions for them to answer about the concept or topic you want to focus on.
- Invite volunteers to participate in a movie club. Pick a movie each month/quarter and build an email list of participants. The moderator will encourage discussion of the movie via the email list encouraging participants to leave their thoughts and comments on the email thread.
- A movie-of-the-month suggestion to volunteers can create great, focused discussions during down time when volunteers are at your Center and can become “informal” reinforcement for skills taught during the volunteer training.
Note: The movies listed here are from variety of perspectives. I do not agree with all of the content in the moves listed. In watching these films I have learned a great deal about the issues, the women and how I would like, and not like, to interact with women faced with the decisions of an unplanned pregnancy. We have much to learn if we can listen and try to understand, without necessarily agreeing, to opposing ideas and positions.
