These are books that I have in my library that have helped me develop the Equipped to Serve materials as well as encourage my personal spiritual and emotional development.
Here are some ideas of how you might incorporate these books into your volunteer program.
- Purchase (or ask for donations) these books in order to build up a lending library of books at your Center that volunteers can borrow with accompanying reflection questions relating to their volunteer work at the pregnancy center.
- Invite volunteers to participate in a “virtual” book club. Pick a book each month/quarter and build an email list of participants. The moderator will encourage discussion of the book via the email list encouraging participants to leave their thoughts and comments on the email thread.
- Incorporate some of the book content in the form of inspirational quotes and examples relating to the concepts you are teaching in on-the-job or in-service volunteer training. You can also use quotes from your favorite books in volunteer emails to encourage and envision them. This will help keep the training concepts alive after the initial training is completed.
